There’s a first time for everything

I loved the Olympics. Every evening, we sat down with dinner and watched anything and everything, from weightlifting to gymnastics. And all the medals Team GB won… downright incredible!

But did you notice in almost every Olympic medal win headline in newspapers and online, they found a ‘first’ – GB’s first high bar medal, first couple to both win Olympic golds, first Olympic hammer medal…

I think the reason for this is it makes so much more. Just ‘Team GB wins another medal’ unfortunately isn’t that exciting. The first medal in X sport, or the first person to retain their title – more exciting!

Olympics

Having watched so much of the Olympics, there were some real stand out moments for me, for many different reasons. Here’s my top 5…

Number 5:

Ukraine’s rhythmic gymnastics routine. In particular when the gymnast throws 4 clubs off one hand at the start… both my boyfriend & I shouted in amazement at the TV at that point!

Tumbling into number 4:

Team GB’s youngest athlete pulled out all the stops and produced this incredible routine!

Amy Tinkler

Mo Farah jogs into number 3:

Mo Farah taking a fall in the 10,000m had us all on the edge of our seats. But the bit that got me, was training partner and competitor Galen Rupp, dropping back to check on him. True sportsmanship.

Number 2:

The women’s 4x400m relay final. It was an incredible show by Team GB and I just really enjoyed watching (and screaming at the TV too…)

And taking my number 1 spot for the best Olympics 2016 moment…

Fiji winning the rugby 7’s. Despite the fact that it was against Team GB, I found myself cheering along with the Fijians when they won their first Olympic medal… and it was gold! It was just so emotional to watch and not to mention a very deserving win.

So there you have my Olympic highlights, what were yours?

Until next time…
